some of the things?!

I'm hitting an upswing in my energy levels (fuck depression) which is great. I'm still on a "wtf is a sleep cycle??" though so... being awake and wanting to do, anything, while in a shared apartment at four am is ... not great.

But... I think it also has a bit to do with having the consequences of not doing some important things starting to show up. "heeeyyy... that thing you should have taken care of last month? two months ago? It's coming around to bite you in the ass right about now" This tends to be a bit of a motivator even if it leaves me feeling more drained than trying to rest and avoid it.

(This is personal, mostly bureaucratic stuff that I'm just not talking about here. f-locked or not)

Again, depression fuck right off.

But on a happier, tangential note. One of the things I've been doing in my S.A.D induced semi-hibernation is watching a lot of YouTube. And so its sparked an interest in doing some new things.

I collect potential hobbies like some people collect creepy dolls. My "ooo, shiny thing!!!" is why I chose the name Magpie.

* Have half an interest in cleaning and purging my apartment. (My apartment space is my bedroom, two cabinets in the kitchen and 1/4 of a refrigerator btw) Basic cleaning needs to be done whither I want to or not. Clearing out of unused stuff/ reorganizing space is a resource hog, but I know that I will gain back some of what I put into it. i.e no longer searching for or tripping over stuff.

* While I'm still somewhat interested in make-up, it's something that's mostly fallen by the wayside for right now. (might pick back up when I'm ready to be in public for more than grocery shopping

* Nail art is still interesting, but there's only so much time/effort I'm willing to put in when practically everything else will ruin said effort in about 2 seconds.

* Knitting is something I want to get back into. I have a shit-ton of yarn. I have a infant sized sweater on the needles for my teddy bear that I need to finish. The tiny sweater is a practice knit, I wanted to fuck up a bunch on something small rather than something me-sized.

* Sewing is a thing that I keep wanting to get more into than I am right now. a knitting podcaster on Youtube I've been watching has made some very cute dresses that go well with the sweaters she's also made. I've really liked the idea of having a hand made wardrobe (I'll get more into this at some other time)

* Baking. I'm gluten-intolerant, trying to figure out how to go from box-mix to scratch can be hard enough when dealing with wheat flour. Trying to reverse engineer a banana muffin that doesn't include the main ingredient??? I'm poor and tired of spending $6 on half a loaf of wonderbread.

and then there's stuff like photography, watercolor painting, a few different forms of dancing, a few more plants/ a tiny balcony garden...

Shit, basically I want to be a house-wife with only the fun bits/ a ridiculously well funded blogger or vlogger.

Is it weird that housewife is the dream job? But housewife is TOTALLY the dream job. I absolutely hear you on that one.

Good luck with the rest. You're keeping on keeping on and that's way more important than people give credit for.

*solidarity fistbump* I too manage depression by having way too many fucking hobbies. if you take up sewing let me know, that's the one i've been slowly picking away at for about 15 years now without really getting good at, but at least i have some stuff now that i didn't before. and a crazy hoard of materials, so uh, don't do that.
also photography. i work in a camera store so if you have any questions about gear or techniques, i'm your random-internet-friend lady.

Ahaha, I totally understand how Youtube enables all the desire to do other things. Collecting potential hobbies is a Thing I do and will one day maybe get over but let's face it, probably not.

Good luck with the banana bread! I don't bake myself but my mother has had some decent luck stealing and altering the "cup for cup" substitutes for flour. She swears by guargum, and I really like tapioca based breads for texture. Let me know if you want me to hit her up for a recipe.

She uses this regular Betty Crocker recipe and uses either the Bob's Red Mill or Arthur's cup for cup flour substitutes. She says you want to stick with simple recipes with real sugar since the recipes that try to be healthier often substitute honey or apple sauce which can make the bread too dense. https://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/betty-crockers-banana-bread-359057

Possibly a bit TMI, but during depressive lows I keep important paperwork in the bathroom cupboard, that way sometimes the tail-end of the oomph that got me to the bathroom can be swung into "wait, I need to do the thing" without being lost into the pit of "it'll take more energy and commitment than I can muster to go get the thing", and I fill out a few boxes/signatures at a time while on the loo. It might take me a couple of weeks to get through a form, but slow and steady and all that.

That paragraph probably makes no sense, but idk.

Ah, well, it was worth a shot. I hope you find something that works for you. In the meantime, yay for hobby collections!
