content warnings

On tumblr, it was fairly easy to tag for sensitive subjects so people could filter out what they did and didn't want to read/see.(Whether that actually worked was something else. but it was easy to tag) I'm going to do my damnedest to put things like discussions of abuse/assault/gore/medical issues/ current US politics and other really sensitive stuff behind a read more.
Since most of you are brand new to me, or at least not someone I know all that well I'd like to know what else you'd like me to tag and/or warn for.
Spiders? Reptiles? Clowns? please say something, even if you don't think it will come up that often.
If you don't feel comfortable asking in replies, my inbox is open :)
This is my journal and I can't guarantee it to be a safe space for everyone, but I don't want it to be UNSAFE for you either.

Date: 2018-12-06 09:49 pm (UTC)Food talk--I'm in eating disorder recovery (Forever and ever, amen /end raised-catholic humour) and I'd just appreciate maybe a cut for food pics/talking about food/ESPECIALLY diet talk. Most of the time I can deal, but if I'm having a bad day, I'll know to skip.

Date: 2018-12-07 12:09 pm (UTC)Since there's a limited number of tags available - they generally aren't used as whisper space on dreamwidth but for organization- I tend to use the specific content warning as part of the read more text instead of tagging for it. YMMV, of course. :)

Date: 2018-12-07 02:30 pm (UTC)To my knowledge (please correct me if I'm wrong) A readmore can act more of a "Do I want to view the thing? Do I want to view the thing right now?"
and a filter to the tag "kittens" (which is only available with a paid account right now) is more like "I'm tired of these motherfucking kittens on my motherfucking dash (feed? reading page?) DO NOT WANT"

Date: 2018-12-08 05:15 am (UTC)Tags on DW are particular to each person's journal - in this instance, a kittens tag would act as an additional flag for those who are channeling Samuel L Jackson levels of kitten-frustration, but they can't be used to exclude the dreaded fur beasties completely from the Reading List.
You can use filters to create reading filters that only contain a subset of journals. Continuing the example - if our Samuel conduit wanted to avoid kittens, and they knew you posted about them often, they could make a 'Here there Be Kittens' filter, and skip your entries - and the entries of other journals, comms and feeds that dig wee felines - until the mental fortitude for kitten-viewing was available.
Wow, I feel like I've typed kittens a million times.
What I do for potentially tricky subjects that I know I'm going to talking about often is set a custom posting filter. For example - I have a filter called 'Doom Patrol' which is where I stick posts about my bad brain/ black dog days. I had explained the filter to my reading circle and asked who wanted to be included in that group; those are the only folk who would see that stuff. I also tag it with doom patrol [though that's so I can find it later].
Hopefully, that wasn't too convoluted. I did present the question of tag exclusion to a circle-mate who uses filters extensively. She recommended this:
"Sylvaine did an excellent tips & tricks post yesterday where she among other useful things talks about the different filtering options on DW. Here's the URL: https://sylvaine.dreamwidth.org/152978.html "
Sylvaine's also a circle-mate of mine, and I can second that there's a lot of useful stuff in that post.
I hope this helps. <3

Date: 2018-12-08 09:28 pm (UTC)(I noticed that you've friended me. Out of curiosity, what led you to pick me? Since I tend to use DW chiefly as a springboard for community discussions, there's not a lot going on in my own virtual fancave; should you decide to check it out, I hope you don't mind teal and weird videos.)
